Here is our list of the top 10 must-watch movies released in June 2025, in no particular order.
There are no spoilers, keeping the list completely safe for anyone looking for something new to watch.
28 Years Later
28 Years Later picks up where 28 Weeks Later, the 2nd installment of the series, released in 2007 and directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, left off. It continues the post-apocalyptic tale of an aggression-causing virus that ravages civilization, turning humans into zombie-like figures.
Alex Garland, who also wrote the first installment, 28 Days Later, wrote the film, and Danny Boyle, known for Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Steve Jobs (2015), and T2 Trainspotting (2017), also reprises his role as director. Aaron Taylor-Johnson takes the lead, alongside Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, who you might remember from the Harry Potter films as "he who must not be named."
28 Years Later has glowing reviews on most movie aggregate sites, with most saying it lives up to the hype of having Boyle back in the director's chair.
Straw
Social media has been abuzz since Tyler Perry's Straw premiered on Netflix. The acclaimed movie is about a hapless single mother forced to resort to unforeseen actions.
Perry wrote, produced, and directed the psychological crime drama, which features Taraji P. Henson in the lead as Janiyah Witkinson.
Sherri Shepherd, Sinbad, Teyana Taylor, and Rockmond Dunbar also star in the film. Review sites give the movie mixed or average scores, but it's worth watching if you want to vicariously walk in the shoes of a down-on-her-luck mom pushed to the limits.

The Life of Chuck
Stephen King's fans were well represented with the screen adaptation of his novel, The Life of Chuck. Mike Flanagan directed the Sci-Fi drama, which stars Tom Hiddleston, Mia Sara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Karen Gillan.
The story revolves around Charles "Chuck" Krantz, told in reverse chronology, from his death to his formative childhood years. It premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and won the "People's Choice Award."
The positive scores on review sites, which must be from fellow fantasy drama lovers, give the movie a huge thumbs-up.
The Accountant 2
The Accountant 2 continues the tale that began in 2016, about two brothers with one mission: laundering money.
Ben Affleck reprises his role as Christian Wolff, an accountant by day and trained killer outside his day job. J.K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson also return, alongside Daniella Pineda, who joins the cast as Anais.
The movie has an above-average rating, meaning it's definitely worth the time investment. A proposed third installment awaits a green light.
Dangerous Animals
If you enjoyed the Showtime Crime drama Dexter, then you should watch Dangerous Animals.
Jai Courtney portrays Tucker, a serial killer with a penchant for feeding his victims to sharks. Before its June 6th release in the United States, the survival horror film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025.
Aussie director Sean Byrne is behind the feature, and he previously directed The Devil's Candy (2015) and The Loved Ones (2009). Hassie Harrison, Josh Heuston, and Rob Carlton also star in the survival horror.
Ballerina
Marketed under the title "From the World of John Wick," Ballerina is a Len Wiseman-directed action thriller. It's the fifth in the John Wick series of films, following the events of the 2019-released John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum and the 2023-released John Wick: Chapter 4.
It tells the story of Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), a ballerina-turned-assassin who recruits a band of killers to avenge her father's death. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly early in 2025, Wiseman shared that a continuation is in the works.
Ballerina has positive reviews, and anyone who has watched the 1987 film adaptation of The Princess Bride will appreciate the storyline as a modernized derivative.
